Legitimate Contenders Have Real Shot at Winning Super Bowl XLV

The Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers (huh?) may sit atop this season’s NFL Super Bowl XLV Futures Odds, but several other teams that are either approaching or are just below ‘elite’ status, (at least in NFL oddsmakers eyes and BetUS Sportsbook) stand just as good a chance of reaching and winning this season’s Super Bowl tilt as any team in the league whether they have ‘elite’ status or not.
This look at several top teams hovering right near the top of the NFL Futures Odds – and their respective chances of actually winning this year’s big game, will put devoted pro football betting fanatics on the right path toward making a potentially profitable season-log Super Bowl pick.

With NFL training camps all over the nation set to begin in a mere matter of days, let’s get down to business.
- Green Bay Packers +1400
I’ll get right to the points concerning the Packers by simply saying that I genuinely believe this team has as much of a chance of reaching the Super Bowl title tilt as any team in the NFC, no matter what the odds say.
The Packers ranked fifth in total offense and second in overall defense last season – and those kind of statistics mean the Pack undoubtedly has a legitimate shot.
Green Bay also has one of the best quarterbacks in the game today in Aaron Rodgers and addressed their offensive line needs by drafting tackle Bryan Bulaga with its first round pick.
Placing a bet on the Packers to win it all looks like a really smart move to me, particularly for a team that has legitimate Super Bowl hopes and is offering such incredible value.
- New England Patriots +1200
NFL oddsmakers have listed the Patriots as one of the top favorites to come out of the AFC this season, but I believe they are seriously overrated. I know the Pats are coming off an 11-win season, but every weakness the Patriots had last season was exposed in its 33-14 playoff shellacking at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. Still, this team does have Tom Brady, Randy Moss and head coach Bill Belichick, so another double-digit win total is certainly not out of the question.
Nevertheless, I think New England has some serious issues at running back and on the defensive side of the ball where its front seven will really need to do better than it did last season when it ranked 12th against the pass.
- Baltimore Ravens +1400
The Baltimore Ravens look like they are going to be a real threat to win the AFC in 2010 after upgrading a passing attack that ranked a mediocre 18th last season by adding veterans, Anquan Boldin and deep threat, Donte Stallworth.
Of course, elusive, multi-talented running back Ray Rice has the ground game and short passing attack ‘on lockdown’ for Baltimore after combining for over 2,000 rushing and receiving yards a year ago. I also like the additions of quarterback Marc Bulger, not to mention Baltimore’s commitment to defensive excellence. The Ravens drafted two defensive linemen with its first two draft picks and added two veteran cornerbacks as well. Just like the Packers, I believe Baltimore has a very realistic chance of winning the AFC in 2010. Placing a NFL Futures wager on the Ravens is almost a must if you ask me NFL betting aficionados.
- Pittsburgh Steelers +2000
I know Ben Roethlisberger will miss at least four games because of suspension, but that’s not what really concerns me about Pittsburgh’s chances to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 45. The loss of right tackle Willie Colon and trading of wide receiver Santonio Holmes will likely play a large part in how Pittsburgh does this upcoming season. Pittsburgh’s once-powerful rushing attack fell to 19th in the league last season and if the Steelers have the same blocking problems as it had a year ago, then Pittsburgh could very well be looking at its second consecutive third place finish in the competitive AFC North. Still, I think Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin is one of the best in the game and will have his team as prepared as possible week in and week out.
